Voted "the most likable boy of the year" in an online poll, Singapore singer Derrick Hoh got his record deal after finishing third in a singing contest in 2005. However, his debut album had to be put aside for a lengthy spell to make way for his military service. When the long-awaited first album was finally released in Singapore, it broke the territory's single day sales record, and earned him a nomination for Best Newcomer at the Singapore Hit Awards.
